  Submariner Vincent Joseph "Nick" DeNicola, 74 of Fancy Gap, sailed on his eternal patrol Monday, 12 February 2007. He was an active member of the Tarheel (NC) Base of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc.

Nick was born 4 Dec 1932 in Hartford, CT and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring as an E-9 Master Chief Electrician with over 32 years of service. His first ship was the USS DELTA (AR 9) and then aboard five submarines USS JALLAO (SS 368), USS TULLIBEE (SSN 597), USS SAILFISH (SS 572), USS SARGO (SSN 583), and USS FINBACK (SSN 670).
