Captain Michael A. McBride entered the U.S. Naval Academy after graduation from Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1952. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy in June 1956, he reported to the USS MACON (CA 132) serving as a division officer in the Gunnery Department.

In January 1958, he reported to Submarine School at New London, Connecticut, and subsequently reported to USS BREAM (SS 243) serving as Engineer, Gunnery Officer, and Supply Officer, and completing requirements for Qualification in Submarines. In January 1960, CAPT McBride entered the Navy's Nuclear Power Propulsion Program, attending Nuclear Power School in New London, Connecticut and Prototype Training in West Milton, New York. He then reported to the Pre-commissioning Crew of USS SCAMP (SSN 588), serving as Operations Officer, Weapons Officer, and Main Propulsion Assistant over a three-year period.

CAPT McBride served as Director of the Enlisted Department at Nuclear Power School, Mare Island from 1963 until 1965. In November 1965, he assumed duties as Executive Officer of USS ROBERT E. LEE (SSBN 601) Blue Crew. From January 1969 to June 1971, he served in the Plans and Policy Directorate on the Staff of Commander in Chief, U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.

In November 1971, CAPT McBride reported to USS SARGO (SSN 583) serving as Commanding Officer for over three and one half years, including two deployments to the Western Pacific and a major refueling overhaul at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

From August 1975 until August 1977, he served as Deputy Commander, Submarine Squadron ONE. CAPT McBride was then assigned as Chief of Staff, Submarine Group SEVEN in Yokosuka, Japan, and in April 1979 relieved as Commander Submarine Force Seventh Fleet and Submarine Group SEVEN.

From May 1981 to September 1983, CAPT McBride was assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans on the Staff of COMSUBPAC. His final tour in the Navy was as Director of Intelligence Evaluation (OP-009R) in the Pentagon until his retirement in July 1985.

CAPT McBride's awards include the Legion of Merit (3 awards), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and the Navy Unit Citation.

In 1985, CAPT McBride joined Lockheed Corporation as Director of the Marine Systems organizations in San Diego, CA, retiring from Lockheed Martin in 1997. For the past several years, he has been active with Ascension Catholic Parish, the U.S. Naval Submarine League, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where he currently is serving on the Board of Trustees for the San Diego Hawaii Chapter.

Mrs. McBride is the former Joan Elizabeth Smith of Ocean City, N.J. The McBrides have four grown children and five grandchildren.
